The Medicines Repurposing Program team will provide an overview of the new program and how interested stakeholders can propose potential new therapeutic uses of existing medicines. See more information on the MRP.
Background
The Australian Government has introduced the Medicines Repurposing Program (MRP) to identify new therapeutic uses for existing medicines and to help improve patient access to treatments by encouraging sponsors to expand the approved uses of their medicines.
The program targets medicines for which a significant public health benefit has been identified but there is little or no commercial incentive for a sponsor to pursue regulatory approval and PBS listing to make this use more accessible.
The program opened on 1 March 2024 and is currently inviting nominations from stakeholders for medicines suitable for repurposing.
