Issues related to safety
This sunscreen contains HICC (4-(4-hydroxy-4-methylpentyl)-3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde), which is an ingredient that is no longer permitted for use in listed medicines. It may cause skin sensitisation, including redness and allergic dermatitis.
However, all batches of this sunscreen with an expiry date of 30 August 2023 or earlier were recalled in July 2021 because benzene was detected in some batches supplied in Australia. No further batches were supplied after that date, as such, it is unlikely that affected stock remains on the market to pose an immediate risk to consumer safety.
Issues related to efficacy
The efficacy of this sunscreen was not assessed as part of this review
Actions taken during the review
The TGA required the sponsor to correct the issue with this sunscreen. The sponsor cancelled the sunscreen and withdrew it from further supply.
