Issues related to safety
The sponsor incorrectly certified and advertised that the medicine contained rosemary oil, an ingredient not present in the medicine. The sponsor did not declare that the medicine contained a leaf extract of Rosmarinus officinalis, an ingredient which may contain cineole and camphor. Cineole and camphor are potentially harmful substances that were not actively being monitored in the medicine. However, the sponsor provided information demonstrating that the quantity of cineole and camphor in the medicine is within permissible limits and unlikely to pose a safety risk to consumers.
Issues related to efficacy
The advertised claim detailed in 'What action should consumers take?' above, implies that that the medicine may be more effective than a healthy diet and may lead to unrealistic efficacy expectations for consumers
Actions taken during the review
The sponsor cancelled the medicine and withdrew it from further supply. Nevertheless, the TGA issued an educational letter to the sponsor outlining the issues with the medicine.
