Indicated as adjunctive therapy in adults with severe refractory hypertension which has failed to respond to extensive multiple therapy. When used in combination with an accompanying diuretic and beta-blocker, minoxidil has been shown to reverse encephalopathy and retinopathy in severe hypertensives.
