Australian Therapeutic Goods Advisory Council meeting statement, Meeting 3, 6 August 2013

The Australian Therapeutic Goods Advisory Council (the Council) met for the third time at the Therapeutic Goods Administration offices in Symonston, on Tuesday, 6 August 2013.
Members discussed progress against phase three of the Blueprint implementation. They noted that more than half the recommendations have been implemented in the first 18 months.

Updates on a range of topics including medicines labelling and packaging, medical device premarket assessments, the Public Contact Team (PCT), medicine shortages, medicines compounding, and ANZTPA were provided.
The meeting discussed progress against stakeholder engagement (including international engagement) strategies and developments in the post market space. Members emphasised the importance of continuing to develop, implement, and monitor good education and communication strategies, as well as maximising opportunities to leverage off e-Health initiatives especially in relation to registries and adverse event reporting.
Draft TGA Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) were provided to members for their consideration. The KPIs will provide high level whole of TGA quantitative and qualitative measures of performance. It is anticipated that reporting against the KPIs will occur by 30 June 2014.
Next meeting
The next meeting of the Council is scheduled for the first quarter of 2014, in Canberra.
