The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) wishes to advise consumers that Otto Bock Australia Pty Ltd has initiated a recall of a number of mobility chairs consisting of the combination of the Otto Bock Discovery Wheelbase and the Leckey Mygo Seat.
This recall applies to the 40.5cm Discovery Wheelbase model no HR3204 K or HR32040040-27, with serial numbers up to and including 201042100610, when used in combination with the Mygo Seat.
Testing has shown that the frame of the Discovery Wheelbase, when used in conjunction with the Mygo Seat, does not meet appropriate crash test standards.
It is anticipated that only a small number of mobility chairs will be affected by this recall.
Information for consumers
Consumers are advised to cease using the Discovery Wheelbase / Mygo Seat combination as a seat in a vehicle. The chair may still be safely used as a mobility device.
Otto Bock Australia Pty Ltd issued recall notices to all distributors of these devices in the week commencing 10 January 2011. The recall letter advises distributors of the Discovery Wheelbase and Mygo Seat combinations to contact their customers to arrange for replacement with a reinforced model, at no cost.
Consumers should be contacted by their supplier within the next two weeks regarding the replacement reinforced model.
