Shortage of Mounjaro (tirzepatide) injections
Eli Lilly has informed us that availability of all strengths of Mounjaro (tirzepatide) will be limited until 31 August 2024 due to unexpected high demand.
Availability of the 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg and 15 mg doses of Mounjaro is expected to vary over this time. We recommend that patients and healthcare professionals check the Medicine Shortage Reports Database for the latest supply status of the strength they need.
As for similar medicines, including Ozempic, Mounjaro is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes but is being prescribed off label at high levels to manage weight loss.
We recommend that patients who are unable to fill their script for the correct strength of Mounjaro in time for their next dose should contact their doctor immediately to have their treatment plan reassessed.
We will publish updates about the supply of Mounjaro from Eli Lilly on the Medicine Shortage Reports Database.
