The government is now operating in accordance with the Guidance on Caretaker Conventions, pending the outcome of the 2025 federal election.
The Therapeutic Goods Advertising Code 2021 - external site came into effect on 1 January 2022. The 6 month transition period to the new Code ends on 30 June 2022.
On 1 July 2022 the option of complying with the 2018 Code no longer applies. Please ensure that all advertising, including on social media, is compliant by this date.
In an April media statement we announced one exception to the transition period. While advertisers use up existing hard copy stock of advertisements that meet the mandatory statement requirements in the 2018 Code, we will take a pragmatic approach to compliance and not seek to take enforcement action against the use of those materials where they are compliant with the 2021 Code in all other respects.
The TGA has published guidance on applying the 2021 Code rules, including guidance on Part 6 of the Code - testimonials and endorsements.

- Guidance published to the current website during the transition to the new website may not be in its optimal format, however this will be improved on the new website in the coming months.
- While we are taking action to replace any reference to the Therapeutic Goods Advertising Code (no. 2) 2018, where some references remain after 1 July 2022 they must be read as a reference to the Therapeutic Goods Advertising Code 2021 - external site. All references will be updated during transition to the new website.
