1 Body Beautiful
In May 2010, the Hong Kong Department of Health issued an alert concerning a product known as 1 Body Beautiful which had been found to contain the undeclared pharmaceutical substances sibutramine and phenolphthalein.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is aware that some Australian consumers have purchased the product 1 Body Beautiful over the internet or from an Australian retailer, and that the product claims to be 100% herbal in origin.
TGA laboratory analyses have confirmed the presence of sibutramine and phenolphthalein in this product. As it has not been assessed by the TGA for quality, safety or efficacy it may not be legally supplied in Australia.
Sibutramine is a prescription-only substance in Australia and may be harmful if taken without the supervision of a medical professional, particularly in patients with history of cardiovascular disease. Phenolphthalein was previously used as an oral laxative, but is no longer available in Australia because of serious safety concerns associated with its long term use.
If you have purchased 1 Body Beautiful you are advised to cease using it and discard any remaining product. If you have concerns arising from your use of this product you should consult your health care practitioner.
Consumers are again advised to exercise extreme caution about purchasing medicines over the Internet. Products purchased in this way may not meet the same standards of quality, safety and efficacy as those approved by the TGA for supply in Australia, and may contain unauthorised and potentially harmful ingredients.
