Update - Abbott Australasia confirms that the FreeStyle LibreLink Android app update is now available. The updated version is compatible with Android OS 13. You should update your FreeStyle LibreLink App to the latest version (2.8.4) through the Google Play Store.
Abbott Australasia Pty Ltd has received reports of problems with the FreeStyle LibreLink app when used with smartphones on the Android 13 Operating System (OS). Users may experience extended periods of signal loss and during this time they won’t receive high or low glucose alarms.
This could delay a patient recognising and managing their high or low blood sugar levels.
The FreeStyle LibreLink app is not being removed (or recalled) from the market, but a software update will be sent out to fix this problem.
Which products are affected?
The FreeStyle LibreLink app when used with an Android 13 OS.
The products and systems listed below are NOT affected:
- FreeStyle LibreLink on Android 12 OS or below
- A FreeStyle Libre 2 reader to start the sensor
- FreeStyle LibreLink on an Apple iPhone
- FreeStyle LibreLink with alarms not enabled
What should I do?
If you use the Freestyle LibreLink app AND it’s on an Android smartphone:
Check your current Operating System (OS), and if you have not yet upgraded to Android 13, do not upgrade until the FreeStyle LibreLink update is available.
- If you have already upgraded to Android 13 -
- ensure the Signal Loss alarm is turned on, and the ‘Override Do Not Disturb’ function is turned on.
- be aware of the symbols related to ‘alarms are unavailable’ and what to do when the alarms are presented to reconnect.
The FreeStyle LibreLink app update will be released very shortly, by early March at the latest. Abbott will notify you once the update is available.
