Shen Neng Herbal Medicines Group Pty Ltd, after consultation with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), has initiated a consumer level recall of two batches of its Chuan Xiong Chao Tiao Wan pills following detection of low levels of aristolochic acids.
Chuan Xiong Chao Tiao Wan pills are a traditional Chinese medicine sold in Australia.
Aristolochic acids have been associated with serious adverse reactions including severe kidney damage and urinary tract cancer in humans.
If you have purchased this product, you are advised to stop using it and return it to the place of purchase.
Consumers who have concerns over their use of this product should consult their health care practitioner.
Press advertising of the recall is expected to appear in daily state newspapers where the product has been supplied (Victoria and New South Wales), commencing Tuesday 21 April 2009.
