Recall: Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Six Formula) BP015

Sub Herbal is recalling all batches supplied in Australia of Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Six Formula) BP015 (AUST L 99121) as a precautionary measure due to the potential for the medicine to result in unacceptable amounts of lead.  

What is the problem? 

There are incorrect dosing instructions that have been provided online that advise consumers they can take up to 72 pills per day, which could potentially result in a higher than recommended intake of lead from the medicine. This online advice has since been removed. 

Pills in Australia must not provide more than 5 µg of lead in the maximum daily dose, however if the daily dose of 24 pills is taken, it could also potentially result in unacceptable lead levels. 

Our investigations are ongoing. Sun Herbal is working with us to recall all medicines due to the potential for exposure to unacceptable amounts of lead from consuming the medicine. Removal of all batches is a precautionary measure, while testing is underway to ensure the safety of the Australian public.  

What are the risks?

Exposure to high levels of lead can result in a range of adverse effects depending on how much lead has been consumed and for how long. This can include high blood lead levels with no obvious symptoms, or potentially lead to lead poisoning after higher or longer exposure. Pregnant women and children are at a greater level of risk from lead poisoning. 

If you have taken the medicine and are concerned that you may have been exposed to increased levels of lead, you should seek medical advice from your medical practitioner. 

What should I do? 

If you have a bottle of Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Six Formula) BP015 from any of the above batches, do not use it. Return it to the place of purchase for a refund or call Sun Herbal customer service line to arrange the return of affected product and refund.
